Policy Briefing - Victims Law Consultation

This briefing paper gives you the background to the consultation and sets out the response the Restorative Justice Council has made to it. 

A Revised Victims’ Code was launched in November 2020 and took effect from April 2021. At the time of the launch the Government said that it would shortly be consulting on the introduction of a Victims’ Law. The primary purpose of such legislation is to put the rights of the Revised Victims’ Code into primary legislation. At the moment their status is that of statutory guidance.

Restorative Practitioner - RAPs and Reparation

The Remedi team in Derby City are looking for a Restorative Practitioner to supervise reparation hours and run restorative action projects with young people in the Youth Justice Service. Their new team member will spend most of their time in the community with young people aged 10-18 fulfilling the reparative element of their order. They are looking for someone who can work creatively to engage young people and support them to come up with project ideas to benefit their community as well as work with placements in their local community.

Fran Kranz’s critically acclaimed film Mass comes to the UK

Released today, the Sky Original film ‘Mass’ tells the story of Jay and Gail Perry, parents grieving the death of their son, a victim of a school shooting. Six years after the tragedy, they agree to meet the parents of the perpetrator.

The two sets of parents (Jason Isaacs and Martha Plimpton, Reed Birney and Ann Dowd) agree to talk privately in an attempt to move forward and repair harm caused. Fran Kranz, in his writing and directing debut, thoughtfully examines a journey of grief, anger and acceptance experienced during the restorative meeting.

Having first been awarded the Restorative Standards Quality Mark (RSQM) in 2018, Safer Communities – Restorative Cleveland have continued to offer high quality restorative justice across the Cleveland Police Force Area.
