In our thought-provoking short film, ‘Facing the Impact’, we explore the emotional and transformative journey of Daniel, a young man grappling with the consequences of his actions after a violent encounter with PC Macauley. The film takes us through the powerful process of restorative justice, where both Daniel and PC Macauley confront the deep-seated wounds inflicted by the assault and the ripple effects that follow.

With the compassionate guidance of experienced restorative practitioners, Daniel enters a tense and uncertain conference room, where he and PC Macauley engage in a raw and honest dialogue about the harm caused. This pivotal meeting becomes a glimmer of hope, illuminating the path toward reconciliation and understanding in a society often plagued by conflict.

Produced in collaboration with Deirdre Leask from Southwark Youth Offending Service and Roadworks Media, ‘Facing the Impact’ goes beyond the conventional narrative of crime and punishment. It powerfully showcases the positive impact of restorative justice on young individuals navigating the turbulent landscape of the youth justice system. As Daniel confronts his past and seeks to make amends, audiences witness the profound potential for healing—not only for the victim but also for the offender.

This poignant film serves as a cornerstone of the Restorative Justice Council’s campaign, raising awareness for the transformative power of restorative justice for victims of crime. Through dynamic storytelling, ‘Facing the Impact’ invites viewers to reconsider conventional notions of justice, advocating for empathy, understanding, and a belief in the possibility of redemption.
