Congratulations to The Iffley Academy

The Iffley Academy become the first UK school to be awarded Registered Restorative Organisation status 

We are pleased to announce that The Iffley Academy has become the first school within the UK to be awarded Registered Restorative Organisation status. Achieving this status demonstrates they provide safe, high quality restorative practice which meets the six Restorative Organisation Standards.

The Iffley Academy is a community Special Academy for children and young people up to the age of 18 with complex special educational needs. Their students have a range of needs but primarily they work with students with Cognition and Learning Difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties.

Senior leaders have, over the past 18 years, embedded a strong restorative culture across the academy which has been embraced by the whole community including staff, pupils and parents. Staff are clear about the central role restorative approaches play in creating a calm, safe environment in which students can learn and thrive.

Jim Simon, the RJC’s chief executive said:

“Congratulations to The Iffley Academy on being awarded Registered Status. It is a well-deserved recognition that staff at all levels are facilitating high quality restorative practice for children and young people with complex special education needs.”

Jacqui Court, Iffley Academy’s Student Wellbeing and Therapeutic Support Manager said:

We are extremely proud that we have received this recognition. This truly demonstrates the passion we all have in promoting a restorative school.

It’s the consistent little things we do that one day lead to the bigger things, that bigger picture. As our students grow, they learn to understand about their own feelings and emotions and those of others. This instils confidence and trust enabling them to make those important relationships.

Having these skills are concrete foundations to their learning. A massive well done to team Iffley!
