Adamsdown Primary School Awarded RJC Registered Restorative Organisation Status
The Restorative Justice Council (RJC) is pleased to announce that Adamsdown Primary School has been awarded Registered Restorative Organisation Status, recognising the school’s commitment to creating a positive, supportive and respectful environment for all.
At Adamsdown, restorative practice has a powerful impact on pupils by helping them build strong relationships, develop empathy and learn how to resolve conflicts in a calm and constructive way. It supports children’s emotional wellbeing, confidence and sense of belonging, enabling them to feel safe and ready to learn. Beyond the classroom, it strengthens the wider school community by building trust with families, promoting shared values and encouraging respect and understanding between everyone.
The school applied for Registered Restorative Organisation status because it is committed to providing the very best environment for its pupils, where relationships, wellbeing and respect are at the heart of everything it does. Seeking this recognition gave the school an opportunity to reflect on and strengthen its practice, ensure it is meeting high standards, and demonstrate its dedication to consistently supporting children in a positive and nurturing way.
The comprehensive application process, particularly compiling the portfolio, allowed Adamsdown Primary School to review all areas of practice and identify where to focus next in its restorative journey. As the school serves an everchanging community with high mobility in the area, it is especially keen to ensure that training for parents is updated regularly and remains accessible for all.
Emma Thomas, Head teacher at Adamsdown Primary School, said:
“We are incredibly proud to have achieved Registered Restorative Organisation status; it reflects our unwavering commitment to nurturing positive relationships, supporting every child’s wellbeing, and creating a school community where everyone feels heard, valued, and respected.”
Jim Simon, Chief Executive Officer of the Restorative Justice Council, added:
“Achieving Registered Restorative Organisation Status is a significant milestone. It demonstrates that restorative practice at Adamsdown Primary School is not only well‑intentioned, but embedded, reflective and aligned with the standards we expect of high‑quality restorative work. This status recognises the collective commitment of the school community to building a respectful, inclusive culture where relationships are central to learning and wellbeing.”
Adamsdown Primary School would encourage other organisations to apply for Registered Restorative Organisation status because it is a valuable opportunity to reflect on and strengthen practice while gaining recognition for the positive work already taking place. The process helps to ensure a consistent, high‑quality approach to relationships and behaviour, builds credibility and trust with families and partners, and demonstrates a clear commitment to wellbeing, inclusion and continuous improvement.
The RJC congratulates Adamsdown Primary School on achieving Registered Restorative Organisation Status and welcomes the school as part of the growing network of organisations committed to high‑quality, principled restorative practice.
