Restorative justice received widespread coverage yesterday when BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour featured a powerful interview with Emma, a rape survivor who met her attacker in a restorative justice conference.

When Emma left an abusive relationship she was stalked and then raped by her former partner. After his prison sentence, restorative justice provided a way for her confront him with the damage he had done. Emma said: “When I walked out of that meeting, I could have taken on anything or anyone. It was as if a massive weight had been lifted off my shoulders… I felt completely empowered.”

The Woman’s Hour coverage included an interview with Jon Collins, the RJC’s CEO. He said: “We’re immensely proud to have worked with Emma to bring her inspirational story to a wide audience. We hope that Emma’s story will raise awareness of restorative justice and, ultimately, help other victims of crime.”
