Ministry of Justice announce restorative justice Action Plan to 2018
The Ministry of Justice has published its third restorative justice action plan with information and objectives up to 2018. The document outlines the MOJ’s commitment to victim-focused restorative justice and its vision of what restorative justice provision will look like in the coming years.
This version of the action plan, which takes into account the evolving criminal justice landscape and the progress made in the provision of restorative justice, covers three key areas:
- equal access – that restorative justice is available to victims at all stages of the criminal justice system regardless of where they live or where an offender is located
- awareness and understanding – that people are aware of restorative justice and its potential benefits and what is involved so that they can make informed choices
- good quality – that restorative justice is safe, carried out by competent practitioners trained to national standards and focused on the needs of the victim
Jon Collins, the RJC’s CEO said: “We welcome the new action plan as it reinforces the government’s commitment to restorative justice and acknowledges the positive changes and developments which have taken place in the field. In particular, we are very pleased that good quality restorative practice is a key priority. As the standards setters for the restorative field, ensuring safe, high quality restorative processes are available wherever and whenever they are needed is one of our main objectives.”
