Freelance Restorative Listeners – Post Office Horizon IT Support Programme (Pilot)

The Restorative Justice Council is launching a pilot programme to support victims of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal who may prefer not to engage with traditional restorative justice processes. We are seeking compassionate and skilled Freelance Restorative Listeners to deliver confidential, supportive listening sessions designed to validate and empower participants as they share their experiences.

About the post

Each participant will be offered up to six confidential sessions via secure online video or telephone, depending on their preference. This role is not part of any traditional restorative justice process; it is focused solely on wellbeing, recognition, and emotional support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver up to six confidential listening sessions per participant, providing a safe, trauma-informed space to share experiences.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding protocols.
  • Engage in monthly reflective supervision to ensure ongoing support, guidance, and personal well-being.
  • Follow clear referral pathways for participants requiring mental health, financial, or legal support.
  • Contribute to thematic reporting and feedback processes while protecting participant anonymity.
  • Ensure case records are kept up to date on the online system.
  • Attend training specifically designed to enhance empathy, active listening, and trauma-informed skills.

Person Specification

  • Demonstrable experience in active listening, emotional support, or similar roles (e.g., counselling, social work, advocacy).
  • Understanding of trauma and its impact on victims.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to remain non-judgmental.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly, whilst adhering to strict safeguarding and confidentiality protocols.
  • Commitment to reflective practice and participation in supervision.
  • Access to a laptop and phone, an email address and Microsoft Teams telephone number will be provided.

Due to the sensitive nature of the work, successful applicants will be required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to commencing work.  

Location: 

Remote (secure online video or telephone sessions)

Hours: 

Freelance, up to 15 hours per week, over 2 days. Includes evenings and weekends.

Rate: 

£150 per day (£21.42 per hour), reimbursement of all travel and accommodation costs, and access to professional case supervision.

Duration: 

5-month pilot

Essential Training: 

Successful candidates will be required to complete 3 days of essential training with expenses paid. This training will be in-person (provisionally the 10th, 11th and 12th of November - location to be confirmed).
