Approved Course - Foundation Level

Who is it for?
This course is designed for those who are either currently working, or intend to work in the field of restorative practice. This training is open to anyone. Our experience is that most people can become competent restorative practitioners. What varies is the time and effort needed to put into learning restorative skills and the degree of change needed to make in the learner’s style of interaction with other people. There are no entry requirements.

On completion of this programme of study the learner will:
> Understand their own and others’ responses to harm and offending;
> Know the main different approaches to dealing with harm and offending;
> Appreciate the ethics informing restorative practice;
> Understand the legal context in which restorative practice operates;
> Demonstrate the role of the practitioner in different stages of the restorative process.

This qualification develops your learning in four main areas:
> Responding to and managing the different needs of persons harmed and persons responsible;
> Autonomously managing the restorative meeting;
> Autonomously managing a restorative intervention;
> The reasons for the effectiveness of a restorative approach in repairing harm and addressing harmful behaviour together with its limitations.

Learners are assessed and, if successful, receive a certificate. The course is equivalent to SCQF level 6.

Assessment Procedure
This course is continually assessed by experienced trainers.
Assessment is based on the following:
I. an individual’s participation throughout the course
II. a personal reflective statement
III. submission from exercises carried out on home learning day
IV. an assessed role-play of a restorative meeting on Day Six
