Restorative Safeguarding: Exploring the Nine Choices Window (CPD Workshop)

UNIQUE INDENTIFICATION NUMER: RJCMH151226
The Nine Choices Window is a development of Ted Wachtel and Paul McCold's Social Discipline Window, which gives the practitioner permission to move between different windows as they respond to need, acknowledging that it might not be appropriate/ possible to always be in the restorative 'with' window. In this workshop participants will be given opportunities to explore what restorative approaches might look like in various safeguarding scenarios, using the Nine Choices Window to guide reflection.
The format of the workshop will be very interactive and involve circle discussions and opportunities for skills practice.
Learning aims and objectives:
- Learn about the Nine Choices Window and how to use it to reflect on appropriate responses in safeguarding
- Explore various safeguarding scenarios using the Nine Choices Window to think about what restorative approaches might look like in different scenarios
- Sharing best practice in responding to safeguarding disclosures restoratively, including what not to do
- An opportunity to practice restorative skills for situations when safeguarding issues arise
The workshop will be facilitated by Colette Selwood and Pete Wallis, both highly experienced restorative practitioners and trainers in both child and adult contexts, with specialties in youth justice. Colette has also been one of the trainers for Oxfordshire Children Safeguarding Board for several years.
