CPD: Communicating with participants who have been harmed
Learning outcomes:
- For participants to have an understanding of the Victims' code and its relationship to restorative justice.
- For participants to consider ways of challenging negative attitudes towards restorative justice for certain offence types.
- For participants to have an understanding of how and why we introduce restorative justice at an early stage.
- For participants to have an understanding of the benefits of a restorative justice assessment process for victims whose offender has not been identified.
Overview:
This workshop will discuss when and how to have the restorative justice conversation. Participants will look at the Victims' code and its relevance to restorative justice. The benefits of an early introduction to restorative justice will also be discussed. It will also cover ways of letting victims know that they can choose to participate in restorative justice in the future if not currently ready, and materials to support this re-engagement. The workshop will include the opportunity for role play to practice interviewing someone who has been harmed.
