Rapid Response Children & Young People’s Worker
We will provide a crisis and intervention service for children and young people aged 10-18 in the Wigan area who have been arrested after displaying harmful and physically violent behaviours towards their parents or carers. We will focus on triaging and working with higher-risk young people, providing a trauma-informed approach to support them in changing their behaviour. Our service will offer rapid response and intensive support for a short period during crisis points.

Key Responsibilities:
Client work and liaison including:
1. To provide a rapid response to referrals coming through the referral pathway, acting as single point of contact for referrals into the services, liaising with referrers regularly and processing referrals speedily and effectively.
2. To support triaging cases that come through the standard referral pathway.
3. Conducting face to face appointment-based assessments in Wigan with children and young people referred to the service in a rapid response model.
4. Conducting individual face-to-face sessions with clients in Wigan with a focus on exploring behaviour change; developing motivation; recognising and utilising existing strengths; and encouraging the adoption of new skills to help prevent the recurrence of abuse.
5. To facilitate a structured violence prevention programme for young people who have been abusive towards their parent/carer using a trauma-informed and restorative approach to empower children and their families to build relationships and repair harm.
6. To implement actions agreed in risk review meetings.
7. Supporting the service manager to complete reports for referrers and other agencies, as necessary.
8. Liaison with other agencies, attending core group and case conferences as appropriate.
9. Assisting in presentations or workshops about the work of the service.
10. Representing the service, as required, at meetings, seminars, and conferences.
11. Providing day-to-day support, advice, and back-up, to other sessional workers and/or volunteers within the service.
Administration
1. Assisting with the collection of information needed for monitoring purposes.
2. Maintaining up to date information on legal, housing, and welfare issues relevant to domestic abuse.
3. Providing assistance in producing statistical and other reports on work done, to meet the requirements of funders and the service and co-operating in the on-going evaluation of services within TLC; Talk, Listen, Change.
4. Maintaining appropriate client records.
Other
1. Attending and contributing to team meetings within TLC and our partner agencies.
2. Attending line management sessions including the provision of information on client work, service delivery, and organisational issues.
3. Conducting all work in a way that reflects the aims and principles of the organisation, in particular policies on equal opportunities, safeguarding, confidentiality and information sharing.
4. Keeping up to date with domestic abuse issues and restorative approaches as well as participating in relevant training as required.
5. Undertaking other duties as reasonably requested.

ATTRIBUTES ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE
Education, Training and Knowledge An understanding of the importance of safeguarding procedures.
An understanding of the requirement and purpose of interventions and prevention work for young people using harm.
An awareness of patterns of behaviour, and types of abuse, in domestic violence perpetrators.
An understanding of the impact of harm on their victims and the impact on children victims domestic abuse.
A sound understanding of risk factors in domestic abuse.
Comprehensive safeguarding and child protection knowledge
A commitment to working in ways which prioritise the safety of those affected by domestic abuse, both adult victims and their children.
An understanding of the requirement and purpose of working with vulnerable young people who uses violence in their intimate relationships, siblings, and with their peers.
An understanding of the developmental stages of adolescence
An understanding of the criminal and/or family court systems in relation to domestic abuse and the legal options available to those experiencing domestic abuse.
Relevant Experience Experience of working with a young people or groups of young people on changing problematic behaviours and delivering interventions - to support and empower young people to have healthy relationships.
Experience of working one on one with children and young people in a non-judgemental way without labelling them and ensuring any interventions are age appropriate.
Experience of liaising with social care, parents, and other professionals from a range of statutory and independent sector agencies.
Experience of working with families with complex needs
Experience of delivering a Domestic Violence Perpetrator Programme (DVPP) or VCSE intervention for young people, either in group or individual settings.
Experience of working with children and young people who use violence and abusive/coercive behaviours.
Experience of working in a relevant field e.g. youth offending service, child protection, family support.
Experience of working with non-compliant clients who have barriers to behavioural change.
Skills and Abilities The ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, both over the telephone and in person, sometimes over sensitive and/or complex issues.
The ability to organise your own work-load and use your own initiative.
The ability to manage your own administration and high levels of IT literacy and ability to maintain effective recording systems.
Ability to hold people to account for their behaviour and be comfortable with challenge The ability to hold people to account for their behaviour, and to challenge as appropriate.
Child and adolescence Counselling skills, training, or qualification.
An understanding of the importance of consulting on risk concerns.
An understanding of, and experience in, using supervision to ensure best and safest practice.
