We are excited to announce the Annual Restorative Practice CPD Symposium, part of our Connect CPD initiative, taking place ONLINE from December 9th to 13th, 2024. This event offers 12 hours of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) spread over five engaging days. The symposium will cater to professionals engaged in restorative practices across various settings, providing valuable insights and skills relevant to their work. As a part of our Connect CPD initiative, we are pleased to announce our upcoming Annual Restorative Practice CPD Symposium from 9th to 13th December 2024. Join us ONLINE for 12 hours of CPD spread over 5 days. Our symposium will cover a diverse range of topics relevant to those involved in restorative work across a variety of settings. Can't make all of the sessions? We will be recording all sessions to be available for those registered, 1 week after the final session.

Monday 9 December 2024

Youth Participation: Principles and Practices for Success

Time: 10am – 12pm 

Platform: MS Teams

Delivered by: Bex Rushton – Torbay Council

Bexs Rushton is an experienced facilitator and advocate for youth participation. In this CPD session, Bexs will explore the concept of youth participation, focusing on Hart’s Ladder of Participation through engaging, scenario-based discussions. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the different levels of youth involvement and how to move towards more meaningful involvement of children and young people. Additionally, the session will delve into the Lundy Model, which provides a framework for understanding participation from a child’s rights perspective. This model emphasises the importance of giving children a voice and ensuring their views are taken seriously in decision-making processes. Bexs will also share insights on what has made a difference in the local authority she works in to support more meaningful involvement. Join Bexs for an insightful and interactive session that will equip you with practical tools and strategies to enhance youth participation in your work.

An Introduction to Restorative Justice and Trauma Informed Practice

This session will introduce the topic of trauma informed practice, we will examine the principles of trauma informed practice and how they intersect with the principles of restorative justice. Using a case study we will examine how to put our principles into practice.

Restorative Justice and Anti-Social Behaviour in the Criminal Justice System

Time: 10am - 12pm

Delivered by: Tony Walker and Pauline Woodhouse, Restorative Solutions

This session focuses on addressing Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) through restorative approaches. It highlights the importance of these strategies within Commissioned Services and Criminal Justice System (CJS) agencies. The interactive format encourages participants to engage in discussion, challenge existing ideas, and pose questions. Key topics covered include a definition of Anti-Social Behaviour, identification of responsible parties and the importance of partnership working, as well as exploring restorative responses and mediation. Additionally, the session will address the challenges and benefits of implementing these approaches, drawing from shared experiences.

Improving Restorative Justice through Data Insights

Time: 1pm - 3pm

Delivered by: Darren Edwards, MyRJ & Jim Simon - RJC

This session aims to integrate data insights into restorative justice practices to improve effectiveness and fairness. Participants will engage in discussions contrasting traditional practices with evidence-based methods, highlighting the role of data in enhancing process outcomes. Key topics include the importance of monitoring demographic profiles—such as age, gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic background—to customise services for community needs, as well as documenting personal experiences to capture emotional and psychological shifts in participants during the restorative process. Attendees will acquire valuable knowledge and practical strategies for leveraging data insights to further the goals of restorative justice in their communities.

Investing in, and elevating your facilitation practice

Time: 10am - 12pm

Delivered by: Audrey Asamoah – National Probation Service

Audrey’s presentation, investing in and elevating your facilitation practice, will look at some issues of diversity and power using a real-life RJ case study. Audrey will refer to Larell Smith-Bacon’s Invested Facilitation model to explore with participants how they might elevate their practice.


Friday 13 December 2024 

Anti-racist practice in action – Update

Time: 2pm- 3.30pm

Platform: MS Teams

Delivered by: Jim Simon, Chief Executive Officer & Aisa Shearing, Standards Officer, Restorative Justice Council

This session will provide an update on the RJC's efforts to embed anti-racist practices within our Registration Frameworks and Practice Guidance. We will discuss the support needed from the sector and gather valuable insights from practitioners regarding their work in this area.

BOOKING TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following Terms and Conditions apply to this event:

  • Payment of the registration fee must be made prior to the event commencing. Where payment has not been received, the RJC reserves the right to cancel your registration
  • You must hold the required membership to receive the discount offered. If we are unable to verify your membership against the discount received at booking, additional payment may be required to secure your place
  • Registration to participate in individual CPD sessions is not available for this event
  • Weekly passes cannot be split between delegates
  • Access to session recordings will be provided for a period of 3 months
  • Access to session recordings will be granted to the email address used to register for this event
  • CPD Attendance Certificates will only be provided to delegates with confirmed attendance and/or confirmed engagement with session recordings

The RJC reserves the right to amend the content of the provisional programme for this event. All changes made to the programme will be communicated to registered delegates prior to the event start date

REFUND POLICY

In the event that you need to cancel your event registration you can either:

1) Transfer your registration to another person within 14 days of the event start

In the event that a higher fee becomes payable, the RJC will invoice this amount to the new delegate

2) Request a refund

The RJC will process this request in line with our refund schedule outlined below: 

Within 14 days of booking 100%
Between 15 days and 5 days of the event    50%
Within 4 days of the event 0%

Refunds will only be made to the account from which the payment was received
