Knife crime training - staff session

This training is for staff working with students and young people to prepare them to have appropriate, change affecting conversations around knife crime. The course aims to develop the skills, information, confidence and resources to challenge and safeguard those involved in low level knife crime.

Youth Resilience UK CIC is a restorative not-for-profit organisation that utilises a restorative approach to enable staff and young people to have challenging conversations that enable them to look at the harm caused by knife crime and how to keep young people safe.

As knife crime is on the increase institutions working with young people have a duty of care to keep them safe. It’s essential that all staff who work with children and young adults are aware of their safeguarding responsibilities around knife crime and have the confidence and knowledge to know how to tackle these issues.

The course will look at how the myths and preconceptions that young people have about knife crime.  It explores the impact on young people’s lives today, as well as its impact on the victims and the families of the victims.  It will also include information around current knife crime statistics and the law.

We look at how to have difficult and challenging conversations with pupils/young people 1-1 and in a classroom situation, making sure you are better equipped to handle these tricky subjects.

The course is supported by resources, including a presentation and links to DVDs that can be delivered to pupils in a PHSE type environment.  Through a programme of DVDS, practical group work, and quizzes, we aim to include all learning styles and abilities.  You will also be sent a handout with additional links and resources to help you bring about positive choice making in young people.

This course is designed for all staff that are working with young people in education, sports clubs/settings, youth clubs, alternative provision, youth justice etc. It is also very useful for parents and foster carers.
