pman has conducted research into the experience of
survivors of serious harm who have participated i
n restorative processes and has been engaged for o
ver four years in restorative justice practice wit
h adults who have experienced sexual abuse as chil
dren. The learning from this has led Tim to review
and revise his approach to restorative justice pr
actices. He has also engaged people with lived exp
erience of systemic harm and who will participate
actively in facilitating learning.
\n
\
n The course will reflect the internal and externa
l struggles of both victims and perpetrators of ha
rm caused by imbalanced relations of power and by
surviving trauma.
\n
\n This is a fresh
approach to the practice of restorative justice.
It explores how seven elements of restorative proc
esses can be combined to create an exemplary exper
ience of restoration of whatever has been damaged\
, lost or violated by being harmed or harming some
one.
\n
\n By attending you will:
\n • Learn and practice the integration of trauma
informed principles into the 7 competences which e
nhance the 7 key conversations that guide particip
ants from inclusion through preparation to the res
toration of what matters to them.
\n • Throug
h these conversations learn to identify potential
risks to participants speaking freely with each ot
her and risks to their safety and well-being and t
o identify resources which will protect them from
these risks and support them to address what matte
rs to them.
\n • Learn to engage participants
in co-designing restorative meetings in which the
y are supported and facilitated to say what they w
ant without fear of intimidation\, domination or f
urther harm.
\n • Learn to facilitate complex
 restorative meetings.
\n • Learn to evaluate
 the process with the participants.
\n
\n This course is for you if:
\n • You wish t
o learn how to engage victims of serious and compl
ex harm because you believe that their inclusion a
nd participation are critical to the effectiveness
of restoring justice\, human dignity\, solidarity
and truth to participants and the community.
\n • You believe that restorative justice is valu
e-led and that restorative processes should be co-
designed with participants to address what matters
 to them.
\n • You believe that narratives an
d open dialogue can generate understanding\, respo
nsibility\, and commitment to embrace just and res
pectful relations with others.
\n • You belie
ve that the origin of most harm is systemic and in
cludes abuses of power and that undoing injustice
and restoring personal power are primary motivatio
ns of participants in restorative processes.
\n • You want participants to have an experience o
f community that frees them from attachment to pas
t harms and restores new possibilities for the fut
