Restorative South Yorkshire awarded Registered Service Provider status

The RJC is pleased to announce that Restorative South Yorkshire have been awarded Service Provider status.

The service, which is delivered by Remedi and funded by South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner and the Yorkshire and the Humber Probation Service, provides opportunities for those harmed by crime and those responsible for the harm to communicate in a safe environment with the support of trained facilitators.

The South Yorkshire Restorative Justice Hub (funded by SY OPCC) was developed in 2019 and Remedi have been working with partners and facilitating Restorative Justice in South Yorkshire since 1996.

Jim Simon, the RJC’s chief executive said:

“I would like to congratulate Restorative South Yorkshire and their Registered Practitioners on their achievement. Being awarded Registered Status demonstrates the team are facilitating high quality, safe and effective restorative practice. Those considering accessing restorative justice can be confident that they will be supported by highly skilled practitioners.”

During the registration process, the service has been independently assessed against the RJC’s Registered Service Provider Framework which sets out how restorative service providers should work.

The South Yorkshire Service has a clear and robust referral pathway to ensure that referrals are dealt with in a timely and competent manner.

RJC Registration Decision Report (Dec 22)

Senior leaders have embedded a robust programme of quality assurance to ensure safe and effective facilitation of restorative processes. Staff and volunteer practitioners are provided with an excellent package of supervision and professional development which ensures that those accessing the South Yorkshire service receive the best possible support.

As part of their Service Provider Registration, five practitioners were assessed against the RJC’s Registered Practitioner Framework. We are delighted to confirm that Louise Fretwell Elizabeth Coulthard and Aglaia Barraclough have been awarded Advanced Registered Practitioner status. Alongside this, Mark Winrow and Salli Goddard have been awarded Intermediate Registered Practitioner status.

Nicola Bancroft, Assistant Director at Remedi said:

“The Remedi South Yorkshire RJ Team are delighted to have been awarded the RJC Registered Status. We are extremely proud of the service we provide, the relationships we have with our partner agencies and the competent skills which our practitioners demonstrate every day.”

Dr Alan Billings, South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner said:

“I regularly hear positive feedback from both victims and offenders on the benefits of restorative justice. Victims are often provided closure following distressing situations and offenders have the chance to reflect on their past behaviour and learn about its impact. I firmly believe that offenders must be held accountable for their actions, but also, where they genuinely wish to change, we should support that. I’m pleased to learn Remedi has been awarded Registered Service Provider status, highlighting the effectiveness of the services they provide, and I congratulate the team for their achievements.”
