About the RJCThe Restorative Justice Consortium (RJC) is the national voice for restorative practice in England and Wales We work with those practicing Restorative Justice to meet the needs of victims and reduce offending.Restorative Justice has come to apply both in the criminal justice setting, and more broadly to a range of ‘restorative approaches or practices’ which deal with conflict in schools, workplaces, the community and even within prison settings. We work to speak for restorative justice by working with Ministers, political parties, and government to ensure the best use of restorative practices in all appropriate settings. We also work with the media to promote public awareness and understanding of restorative justice. RJC has an important role promoting and supporting best practice in restorative justice. Our work includes supporting the development of standards and accreditation and training in restorative practices. Supporting our members The RJC is a membership organisation. We provide our members with information, support and guidance. Our magazine, monthly e-bulletins and website keep members up to date with developments in the world of RJ. Our conferences and events, give members the chance to network, learn from one another and from national and international experts in the field. If you believe that restorative practices are an effective way to respond to crime and conflict, please join the RJC. It is our vision that every person harmed by crime or conflict should have the opportunity to resolve it through a restorative process. To this end our charitable aims are: " To promote restorative justice for the public benefit as a means of resolving conflict and promoting reconciliation by: (i) Promoting the use of restorative justice in the criminal justice system, in schools, in the workplace and elsewhere in the community in situations where conflict may arise; (ii) Developing and promoting agreed standards and principles for evaluating and guiding restorative practice; (iii) Advancing education and research on restorative justice and the publication of the useful results of that research." Our past – our future RJC was founded in 1997. To promote our objectives fully, in September 2001, it was agreed to open up our membership, which had previously been for national organisations, to include local organisations and individuals who agree with our aims. The Consortium was awarded charitable status in June 2003. In 2010 RJC is becoming the Restorative Justice Council - the quality assurance body for the field.
